Carney Chukwuemeka undergoes knee surgery, set for an extended sideline period

Carney Chukwuemeka is facing an extended period out of action due to a knee injury that required surgery, as confirmed by Chelsea. The young talent had been making impressive strides under Mauricio Pochettino's guidance at the beginning of the new Premier League season.

He even netted his first senior goal against West Ham on Sunday, helping Chelsea equalize after falling behind early to a Nayef Aguerd goal.

Unfortunately, right after scoring, Chukwuemeka sustained an injury that forced him to be substituted for Mykhailo Mudryk. This unfortunate turn of events contributed to Chelsea's eventual 3-1 defeat in the match.

Chukwuemeka has already undergone surgery for his knee problem and is expected to be sidelined for at least six months, according to Goal. However, Fabrizio Romano reports Carney is expected to be out for six weeks.

Chelsea confirmed the latest injury blow in a statement: "Carney Chukwuemeka sustained an injury to his left knee during our game against West Ham United on Sunday.

"Last night Carney underwent surgery and will now begin his recovery. The 19-year-old will work with the club's medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham."

Currently, Chelsea is grappling with a notable injury list, which includes eight senior players such as Reece James, Trevor Chalobah, Christopher Nkunku, and Wesley Fofana. This accumulation of injuries poses a significant challenge for the team moving forward.
