Speaking on talkSPORT radio, former Tottenham winger Andros Townsend said: "I think Mauricio Pochettino is the perfect manager for Chelsea.
"They should have gone for him before they appointed Graham Potter. You talk about no trophies, blah, blah, blah.
"He took Tottenham from mediocrity to one game away from winning the Champions League. He took them to the top step of European football.
"He's inheriting a massive squad, a great squad. He'll weed out the bad characters, he'll bring through the youngsters, he's exactly what Chelsea need."
Pochettino, who has managed Southampton and Spurs in the Premier League, will officially take over as Chelsea's new full-time manager on July 1.
The Argentine, who has won his first pieces of silverware in charge at Paris Saint-Germain, will now be looking to earn his first trophies in England.
