Explained: Why Anthony Taylor had a solid reason to chalk Spurs' first goal off but somehow he didn't

Chelsea played an excellent game against Tottenham Hotspur last night but the match ended in a 2-2 draw thanks to some horrible officiating.

Anthony Taylor was the referee for the game and he made two poor calls, both of which led to Spurs' goals.

The first Spurs goal was scored by Pierre-Emile Højbjerg from outside the box. However, it should not have stood as Richarlison was in an offside position, blocking Edouard Mendy's view of the shot:

Upon replay, Taylor and the VAR officials decided that there was nothing going on to disallow the goal while the rules clearly state that it should be an offside call.

Prior to the goal, Bentancur also seemed to have fouled Kai Havertz which led to Chelsea losing the ball in the first place. However, Taylor indicated that the Spurs midfielder got the ball and the play was allowed to continue.
