Ex-Brazil great Robinho explains what made him snub Chelsea for Man City in 2008

Speaking to Marca, former Brazil star Robinho has revealed he initially planned to sign for Chelsea after his decent Real Madrid spell.

"I wanted to go to Chelsea, Scolari told me that I could make the difference for him in the team," the 37-year-old said.

The move would've actually happened if not for the Whites' weird decision.

"However, Real Madrid ended up badly with them, they didn't like the way that Chelsea sold shirts with my name on them before the deal was done.

"I am sure it was this that led to the negotiations to fail and it was a case of pride for Real Madrid. On top of this Chelsea were in the Champions League and [Manchester] City weren't."

Anyway, Robinho is grateful to Los Blancos for the opportunity they gave him.

"Madrid were the club that opened their doors and gave me the chance to succeed in Europe, perhaps the way that I fought to leave harmed the memories of the good things I did for the team.

"I helped to make them champions and I think I played well but I had made up my mind to leave and I had an explosive character," the Brazilian added.

The famous forward ended up making just 53 appearances for Manchester City from 2008 to 2010, having scored 16 goals and registered 12 assists. After that, however, the Brazilian spent four years at Milan where he recovered his best form.

By the way, Robinho hasn't hung his boots yet! The 37-year-old plays for Istanbul Basaksehir and even bags goals when he's in the right mood to do so.
