'You could never have predicted it': Solanke in B'mouth as his former Academy mates in Chelsea starting XI

Chelsea Academy graduate Dominik Solanke has left the club back in 2017 and completed a much discussed at the time Liverpool transfer.

He struggled to misplace Drogba and Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge - and at Anfield couldn't make it with the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino and his competition.

Eventually, he settled at Bournemouth, but he still doesn't feel like the choices he made were necessarily all wrong.

Solanke told The Telegraph: "I definitely wanted to break through but it got to a point where I just wanted to try and play. People might think I was impatient but I was just a young boy who wanted to play football."

The striker feels both surprised and happy that so many boys from his generation of Chelsea academy players now feature as starting XI footballers under Lampard:

"What’s happened you could never have predicted it, really. It’s fantastic for those boys. They managed to get their chance now and they have taken it. It’s a good thing because the club needed something like that to happen. The talent that comes through the ranks at Chelsea is amazing and now the world can see that."
