Martin Keown believes Mikel Arteta should discipline Aubameyang if he doesn't re-sign, here's how

Southampton's boss Ralf Hassenhuttl has publicly warned his captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg that the armband will be given to another player if he refuses to sign fresh terms with the club.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

And Martin Keown believes Mikel Arteta and Arsenal should use it as an argument to force the striker to make a decision on his future.

"It’s a real concern for Arsenal, recently with [Mesut] Ozil, they lost [Aaron] Ramsey, they lost [Alexis] Sanchez," the ex-Gunner told talkSPORT discussing the club's poor handling of players' contract situations over the recent years.

"First of all I like the core beliefs of Hasenhuttl, you can hear what he’s saying about Hojbjerg and I think that’s where it needs to come from Arteta.

"We’re hearing now that, unlike [Unai] Emery who wasn’t involved apparently in the Ramsey situation, him leaving, he [Mikel Arteta] is getting involved.

"I think the message needs to be to the player ‘look, we can’t have you captaining the club if there’s uncertainty around your contract’, in the last year of his contract, that can’t be allowed to happen."

Aubameyang's contract situation remains a hot topic for discussion with pundits outlining their views on it.

Ray Parlour believes the best solution would be selling the striker and raising some cash to sign a replacement.

Jamie Carragher has admitted that the 30-year-old is 'too good for Arsenal', enraging our fanbase. However, he feels that keeping the Gabonese would be a better decision for the Gunners as it would raise our chances for securing Champions League football.

And lastly, Gary Neville opines that Arsenal made a mistake 'from day one' by signing the ex-Dortmund star on a 3.5-year deal. The United legend has insisted that the club should have tied Auba down to a lengthier contract in view of £56m fee that Arsenal paid to secure his services.
