OUR TEAM FLATTERED TO DECEIVE.
When we remember how last season went and the fact that Klopp had to rebuild the midfield, most of us fans did not expect much this season.
Speaking for myself at the beginning of this season all I hoped for was a top four finish and I know I am not alone in this way of thinking.
However our teams early season form took everyone by surprise and all of a sudden the struggles of last season was forgotten and we started to dream, talk of a quadruple surfaced.
Even with an unacceptable number of injuries to first team players,we still maintained our form to the surprise of all.
Klopp's bombshell news about leaving us at the end of the season did not at the beginning seem to have any adverse effect on the team.
Our injured players started getting back and we now expected the team to kick on and have a real go but alas the wheels came off starting with the demoralising loss to our arch rivals in the FA Cup.
What made that loss more devastating was the number of chances we squandered and the last gasp goal scored by United. In retrospect the strong lineup chosen by Klopp to play against Sparta Prague when that tie was all but done in the first leg did not help our cause at Old Trafford.
The dream actually died at Old Trafford and we never recovered. We have since been playing like a team lacking believe and purpose ,culminating in the shambolic loss to Crystal Palace at home and this loss to our noisy neighbours.
Our season may not have been helped by the announcement that Klopp was leaving, players seem confused and apprehensive of what the future holds for their Liverpool career. In retrospect I think that the club should have made the announcement at the end of the season.
Three weeks ago we were still going for a quadruple and now all we have to show for the season is the Carabao Cup.
In conclusion I think our team flattered to deceive and most of us would have been happy with a top four finish before the season started.
