Erik ten Hag: 'For over 10 years I'm managing, I've never had so many injury problems'

Erik ten Hag has rued his bad luck after seeing Harry Maguire become the latest Man United player to succumb to an injury before the Crystal Palace clash.

Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “For over 10 years I am managing, I never had this experience. So huge, so many injury issues, so I trust all my experience, it can happen once in 10 years. Hopefully now I have to wait another 10 to have so many injuries to deal with.”

The Dutchman also insisted that he needs a bigger squad to work with going forward at Old Trafford, adding: “Yes, that is one of the issues in constructing the squad. where we have to improve, to do things better to construct a squad where we have more depth.

“I think the most important thing is to return players and to get them back. In many positions we created depth and now in some positions we don’t have choices. For instance, the left back position. (Luke) Shaw only 15 starts this season so far and (Tyrell) Malacia zero starts. Not even available.”

Man United have now suffered over 62 cases of player injuries or illness in the 2023/24 season heading into the final five matches of the campaign. The Red Devils are reportedly planning to make multiple signings in the summer window to fix their issues, but there are still no updates on their intention to overhaul the medical team.
