'The corruption level is amusing': Tierney refuses to award Liverpool penalty

Liverpool and Spurs are locking horns at Anfield and it's been pretty one-sided so far, with the Reds leading 2-0 at the break.

The hosts had a penalty shortly after the half-hour's mark after Micky van den Ven came in contact with Cody Gakpo, causing him to fall in the box.

The referee, the infamous Paul Tierney, waves away the Reds' claims for a penalty. And Liverpool fans on social media are unhappy — but are not surprised.

Wilco: "Stonewall penalty on Gakpo, not given though because it’s Liverpool. It’s so blatant man, cheats the lot of them."

Rebekka: "If Havertz was a penalty yesterday, that’s a penalty on Gakpo."

Mayank Tiwari: "That was a sure penalty and obviously not given. Laughed My guts out when the commentator said he tried convincing ref that there was a contact and immediately in screen it showed that defender had his foot on Gakpo's. Man the corruption level is amusing"

Gerard: "If Kane did what Gakpo did then you bet your bottom dollar it would have been a penalty and Neville saying smart play by Kane"

Ever2reen: "This referee bias against Liverpool is beyond disgusting. Yesterday a penalty for both City & Arsenal for soft touches and now Gakpo gets stepped on and the VAR doesn't even check it?"

Jack: "99/100 this season, that gets given as a penalty. Multiple fouls for both sides missed and corners/throw ins given the wrong way for both sides. It’s 35 minutes in. Paul Tierney is dreadful."
