'Less nonsense ye little bute!': Carragher defends his Doku penalty claim

Jamie Carragher's opinion on Jeremy Doku's karate kick on Alexis Mac Allister in the dying minutes of Liverpool's clash with Man City has not gone down well with a lot of fans.

"Jeremy Doku is almost trying to pull his foot away, he doesn’t go right through with it," the former Liverpool player explained on Sky Sports.

"Anywhere else on the pitch and it's a foul, I almost think there is an unwritten rule in football that it has to be a bit more [physical] for a penalty - it's lucky, but I can see why they have not given it."

Journalist Joel Rabinowitz disagreed with Carragher's analysis of the incident and took to Twitter to share his two cents.

"Carra talking some real nonsense there," wrote Rabinowitz. "Saying that because it was in the box, Doku’s challenge wasn’t worthy of a penalty, even though it’s a definite foul anywhere else on the pitch. Keane and Richards in agreement. Brushed under the carpet. Extraordinary."

Carragher hit back with a reply to Rabinowitz's tweet, saying: "Referees give fouls outside the box because it’s easy to blow for it & if it’s wrong no one cares.

"In the box it’s different it can win/lose a game. So they want to be 100% sure, we all know that has always been the case. I thought it was 50/50."

"Less nonsense ye little bute!"

Rabinowitz further explained his view with a reply: "A boot in the chest isn’t a 50-50. It’s a foul. Oliver not giving it in real time is one thing but the VAR not asking him to take a second look is just wrong."
