'He taught me how to see the game': Ruben Dias names the person who had the biggest impact on his career

Ruben Dias believes that his father’s words of wisdom had the biggest impact on him reaching the level he is at today in Manchester City.

Dias said via Mancity.com: "I give a lot of credit to him. He’s never really been in the game. He was a goalkeeper but a car accident stopped him. The awareness he has got is a lot better than many people I have known in the football industry."

"For someone from the outside that has been a fan of Benfica, he could have so many easy opinions. The way he taught me how to see the game, I don’t know where he got it from."

"Maybe it’s just a bit of his personality that has become part of my personality but I give him a lot of credit because I take a lot of the influence he gave me football wise."

"The number one will always be that he taught me to look at me first rather than blaming anyone else for my failures or my team’s failures. That is so simple and so true."

Dias' father wasn't the only one who helped him develop his football skills. Growing up on the outskirts of Lisbon, Ruben played the game every day with his older brother Ivan.
