Fans name all Barca players that should be sold this summer - three of them are currently crucial starters

Barca fan named BasedMonk69 named all players that should be released or sold by Catalans this summer. Among names like Clement Lenglet, Serginho Dest and Oriol Romeu, he also named three crucial players: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong. However, he also gave pretty serious arguments for selling them.

1. Frenkie De Jong - €70-80M

Reasons?

  • Open up the financial space.
  • Clear the abysmal wage.
  • Sign a proper Defensive Midfielder.

Replacement signing options:

  • Martin Zubimendi - €60M release clause, €3M/a current wage.
  • Mats Wieffer - €30-35M potential transfer fee, €420k/a current wage.

If he wants to stick around, why not just peek at the new contract offer that's been sitting on his desk since last November? Why not just sign a new deal to stay a bit longer, take a pay cut, and show some love for the club by not leaving for free in 2 years? He's all like, "I love the city, I love the club." But come on, loving a club only until June 30th of 2026? Nah, that's not real love, man.

2. Robert Lewandowski - €20M

Reasons?

  • To clear the absurd wage and earn a small transfer fee rather than let him leave as a free agent next year.
  • The impending decline, one that he has already started to show.

Downside?

  • A proper replacement is hard in the current market.

Replacement options:

  • Serhou Guirassy - €17.5M release clause, €2.16M/a current wage.
  • Vangelis Pavlidis - €20M release clause, €1.5M/a current wage.
  • Artem Dovbyk - €30M release clause, €2.5M/a current wage.

None of these players are going to be superstars like Lewandowski, but they'll bring a ton of experience and help score goals while also making room for Vitor Roque and Marc Guiu to shine in the future. No way any top club in the world would depend on a 36-year-old to be their main firepower with sky-high wages, unless, of course, it's Messi.

Reasons?

  • Highly unreliable in European campaigns.
  • Often misses on simple saves.
  • No point of return if the defence crumbles.
  • No winning mentality.

Downside?

  • No guarantee that the replacement player(s) will work out perfectly.
  • Replacements may be costly.
  • Will miss his long-ball capabilities.

Replacement options:

  • Alvaro Valles - €30M release clause, €120k/a current wage.
  • Mamardashvili - €35M expected price, €1.5M/a current wage.
  • Anatolii Trubin - Transfer fee may be very expensive, €3.9M/a current wage.
