'He wanted to sign me for Chelsea': 41-year-old Spanish legend Joaquin opens up on hugging Mourinho

In one of the episodes of the Europa League game between Real Betis and Roma, Joaquin was seen hugging Jose Mourinho on the touchline.

The 41-year-old explained this in his post-match interview.

"I respect Mourinho and his career, I am proud that he hugged me because it means that he feels the same," he told DAZN.

"Once, he wanted to sign me at Chelsea. We've known each other for a long time, we hugged each other and said nice things. He is an important man," he added.

Joaquin could've joined Chelsea in 2004 when he was a talent at Real Betis. Despite admitting it would've been 'a great opportunity to become a more important player and win trophies', Joaquin later told that he had no regrets about being loyal to Betis.
