'It's unrealistic in January': Journalist claims Arsenal are looking for cheaper player than Douglas Luiz

Arsenal's eyes seem fixed on Aston Villa's midfielder Douglas Luiz before the upcoming January transfer window, but journalist Dean Jones suggests this pursuit might not be realistic.

Reports indicate that Arsenal has him at the top of their wishlist, but Emery is determined to keep him at Villa. While Villa isn't keen on letting Luiz go, there's speculation that a bid of around £70 million could tempt them.

Splurging such an amount in the winter window might not be Arsenal's preference. Gunners might seek a temporary solution instead, understanding the difficulty in convincing clubs to sell key players midway through the season, even if Luiz tops their wishlist.

Jones said to Givemesport: "I totally think that Douglas Luiz is a good replacement to consider for Thomas Partey, there's no doubt about that. I just think it's unrealistic in January and I'm not even sure it's realistic in the summer, given the way that Aston Villa are building at the moment, and how well he's playing."

"I think that the valuation around him too, you're looking at upwards of £60m, that's pretty difficult to achieve. From what I understand Arsenal in January are looking for cheaper players."
